AN INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE.

“Love Has No Color....No Race... Love Is Pure And Divine But Only A Little of Us Are Able To Preserve It's Purity... Sadly, In This Digital World, Purity Is Rare To Find In Human...”

― Muhammad Imran Hasan

Many people will consider an interracial marriage, but a few will follow through with it because of the assumptions that come with getting families involved. If you don’t try for it you’ll never know.

Ultimately YOU need to decide whether breaking barriers through marriage is worth it. You need a strong foundation or support system, weather that be from your perspective partner, friends or family. This support system needs to be a strong enough foundation for you that IF you are face resistance or risk losing everything you know that you have people or a partner to lean on for support.

1.

You need to identify what is really important to both of you. If you are compatible, you'll naturally be drawn to one another. You'll have a partner who has aspirations and goals similar to yours or at least a long-term plan and some compromise to allow you both room for growth and (of course) support to reach those goals.

Family should never deny marriage on the basis of culture, if it's regarding that persons lacking faith or characteristics (which are beyond refinement or change) then that is fine, but if it simply boils down to the persons race, linage or heritage then the problem lies with your family and not with the potential spouse. Thankfully, Imran and I never faced any difficulty when you came to telling our parents - it was a new experience for both families and I think we can agree that they were both happy and ready to meet one another.
2.

As a young Muslim who were never brought up in our motherlands (Libya or Pakistan) we both identify ourselves as British firstly, because ultimately that is all we've ever really known - with the exception of trips to the homelands during summer holidays. We take the positives from each of our cultures which are complimentary to Islam and leave the rest behind, rather than basing our entire being on traditions of the past.

Within marriage you quickly gain a new perspective on both cultures (yours and your spouses) the struggles and strengths of each culture. You will keep learning about each other, whether these revelations lie in the other persons traditions, travel, celebrations, dance, music etc. You really wouldn't believe that so many complexities and joys were present and imbedded. Ooh... and let’s not forget about the food- I feel spoilt and get the best of both worlds (not that I’m great with spices). But it’s always delicious too have something a little different to tickle the taste buds (my mother in laws cooking is the best, and my husband would say the same about my mother too).

3.

Engage your families. Believe it or not, once your families meet (hopefully sooner rather than later) they'll realise that are minute differences between you. The anxieties they had beforehand will soon disappear once they realise how similar you are to one another, especially when you have the bond of faith. It’s a really big reminder that faith should really be all that matters.

Naturally my father had his reservations before he met Imran.  He invited him over for dinner (on his own) and as soon as he had that first meeting with him, all doubt disappeared. I have no regrets about the them meeting early on, it was healthy for all the family and my father became much more at ease with letting his first daughter (out of three) go. My mother is much more easy-going and had no real reservations and was happy to meet him very early on.

MY advice on meeting the parents: I would definitely recommend getting the families together (including the siblings) and SHOW your parents how well you all get along. Parents main concern is how their child will survive with their new family in a new home. If they can see you In that environment with those people then it definitely sets aside any niggling worries.

Be prepared: everyone makes an interracial relationship into a far bigger deal than it actually is. Everyone expects a story of protest, and how you had to run away to be with your true love. It does happen in some cases, but the majority of the time it’s nothing too complicated – especially if both of you were born in the same country because you already have common ground and culture isn’t as dictatorial to your life. Of course, your parents will need to be persuaded, but you would need to do that with any marriage all parents will always believe that nobody will be quite good enough for their precious child which they have invested so much into. You parents (especially fathers) will need to be convinced that this potential spouse is good enough to look after you.

HONEYMOON.

"You don't need magic to disappear; all you need is a destination."
- Unknown

Honeymoons are a once in a lifetime experience so they have to be beyond spectacular. It every couples dream to be surrounded by turquoise water and white sand during their first few days of marriage and we were blessed enough to have that exact magical experience.

Our journey started the morning after our reception, my in-laws kindly drove my husband and I to the airport, and we said our goodbyes and made our way to the departure lounge where we got comfortable before boarding the nineteen-hour flight to Sri Lanka. The Maldives Island we visited didn’t have an airport so we had to take an hour and a half connecting flight from Sir Lanka to the Maldives. On our arrival to Sir Lanka we were shown to Our Hotels airport lounge (Yes the hotel has its own Seaplane Airline- how cute?) where we waited for our short flight. The flight from Sirlanka to the Maldives is only 20 minutes.

Where we stayed?

We opted to stay at the Coco Palm Resort in Baa Atoll. Since we got married in August – which is perfect weather in the UK, you have to bear in mind that it is Tropical/monsoon season in the Maldives in which weather is considered unpredictable. During our stay we only experience one day of torrential downpours but this quickly cleared up.

We also took the decision to stay on a beach villa - we put in a request to be as secluded from the island communal areas as possible – which was very important to us both and is also a blessing if you are a Hijabi wanting to tan.

Our villa was immaculate and very tastefully decorated in very traditional earthy tones. Our villa doors opened up to a private pool, and just behind the pool we had our own mini jungle… well lots of plants creating amazing coverage and privacy from the everything around us (there was very little around us but even still it made our stay more comfortable). Just behind our mini jungle was a very narrow path, which leads towards the pristine waters, and strips of white sand of Coco Palm Island.
This was a picture of our room we stay in, outside there is a swimming pool that is surrounded by trees. A narrow path is present that leads to the turquoise water. This area was private and didn't interact with any other people. A halal zone ah.
What to do there?
A lot of people I spoke to before my trip were concerned with the lack of activities and things to do on such a small secluded island, to be honest I wasn’t all that worried because I just wanted to spend quality time with my husband. My husband and I specifically wanted to go the Maldives because of how peaceful and chaos free this destination is, this allows time for you and your spouse to relax, talk and enjoy each others company. A place where distractions are limited is something we searched for and prioritized when choosing our honeymoon destination.

On our arrival we discovered there were a number of exciting, once in a life time activities to partake in for the thrill seekers out there.

Activities:
· Snorkling
· Dolphin Watching
· Canoeing
· Diving
· Sunset boat rides
· Island hopping
· Diving with sea turtles or sharks
· Fishing
· Other excursions are available.
There were so many cool spots on the island, which were great to unwind in. This swing became one of our favorite places to spend time in and relax after breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Rules & Tips:

·      The Maldives is a Muslim country, when you're on mainland remember to be respectful and wear clothing that covers the knees and shoulders, everywhere else on the island is very private and you can wear whatever you like.

·      Remember to keep hydrated; the hotel is all-inclusive so be sure to make the most of their organic coconut drinks. Coconut juice is the best way to keep hydrated in the intense sun.

This was our last day on the island, we were met by rain shortly after. But this didn't stop us from going out. Rainfall here is unlike anything we have ever seen, its magical. In this photo, I’m wearing a cream layered chiffon pleated dress, and kept it casual with a baby pink cardigan. Dresses were most convenient and are easy to dress up or down.  I have included links on similar items to achieve this look.

Dress:
Baby pink cardigan: H&M
White Nail polish: Inglot breathable.

From personal experience I recommend wearing cotton clothing. Although we went during the topical season, it was always over twenty-five degrees, this rarely drops even when there is a downpour. I would recommend taking a few dressy evening outfits for romantic dinners by the ocean while watching the sunset.  With footwear I recommend taking a few pairs of sandals, I wouldn't recommend heels at all because it is an island, there aren’t very many areas, which aren’t gushing with white sand so you'll just end up sinking.

We decided not to stay in the overwater villas due to the lack of privacy and the topical season we decided to travel in.  The sea can be very temperamental during this time and getting soaked every time you walk across this bridge may not be to everybody taste. They are beautiful to look at and I’m sure the view from the cabins is to die for; it just wasn’t for us on this occasion. The exciting part is that there are baby sharks swimming around this particular area and reef, these are tame and you can swim peacefully with them – amazing.

WEDDING DAY.

"You know when you have found your prince because you not only have a smile on your face, but in your heart as well"
-Unknown.

It's every girls dream to get married, even more so to plan her wedding. One of the cornerstones in every women life. No matter what size you are everyone women wants to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day. I opted for a theme of white and baby blue. White s elegant and classic and undeniably feminine. Baby blue is a tranquil colour that symbolises peace and harmony and seemed fitting for this perfect day. It also has an underlying class factor. I chose baby blue for my summer wedding.

The series of photos below are from my Nikah (Islamic marriage and registry) the reception photos are not included.

Rather than traditional dresses, I opted for a baby blue jumpsuits for my bridesmaids paired with lace tops to bring everything in together. A hair/hijab garland made by my older sibling Zahra-Rose and yours truly.
My dress was made by my sister Zahra-Rose, which had a lace top and tulle bottom. A hijab garland was added with a mixture of baby blue and white roses. My Bouquet was made using the same roses.

Shoes:
Bridesmaid: Barely there white strap heels from next and for the shorter bridesmaid their were from new look.
Bride: White Stain Jimmy choo's with diamonds across the strap.
A quick shoe change, into some comfortable shoes, barely there block heel baby blue heels.
Husband: Navy suit, classic black oxford shoes, paired with a baby blue tie, pocket square and a Boutonniere to match.

DAILY MAKE UP ESSENTIALS.

"Beauty is self confidence applied directly to your face."
- Unknown.

How you treat your face matters, even when you're getting dolled up. Thats why I believe that the products which especially for skin care i.e. foundation should always be right for your skin no matter what the price tag holds. I've tried many different bits of make-up and I know what is right for my skin. Be open to trying difference options until you've found the one you love.

1. Foundation: Estée Lauder, Perfectionist.

Perfectionist foundation is truly perfect for daily usage. It gives you a medium to full coverage depending on how much product you apple and whether you apply, and leaves your skin feeling flawless all day long. It does hydrate your skin, for someone who suffers from dry skin I'd recommend trying this product out. It gives your a satin finish as opposed to matte which gives you a natural glow.

2. Concealer: L.A. Girl, HD Pro Conceal.

Luckily I don't suffer from dark circles under my eye but I use this product in the shade light, as its a similar tone to be natural skin colour. This product is perfect for highlighting and brightening my under-eyes, which does it brilliantly. I like to apply this product and blend with my finger to gain maximum coverage. The beauty also lines in building coverage, with the more product you apply I avoid this as it tends become cakey.

3. Eye Shadow/ Contour: Rimmel London, Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Stick Bullet.

The ultra soft formula glides onto the eyes so smoothly, making it easy to blend in with your finger or an eyeshadow brush a long-lasting product. The colour I brought, is a perfect shade to use to contour my face. I use this as opposed to a powder on a daily basis as its gives a natural brown colour as opposed to the 'tangerine' colour.

4. Highlighter: Makeup Revolution, Golden Lights

The shimmer, the glow achieved by using this golden champagne colour placed above my cheekbones and in the corner of my eyes to give me a wide eye look. It unbelievable how affordable this product is for what you get, it's a highly pigmented. They also have two other highlighters, pink lights and peach lights which I am yet to try.

5. EyeLiner/EyeBrow Gel: Maybeline, Eye studio Gel Liner Black

This product I use for two purpose one as an eyeliner although I don't tend to wear eyeliner on a daily basis. The next I've found that it is a perfect substitute for gel eyebrow gel and by using a minimal amount it goes a long way and gives my eyebrows a natural finish. It doesn't smudge when using it as an eyeliner or to fill in the sparse areas of my brows. A little bit of product goes a long way.

ELEGANT MADE EASY IN ROMA.

"Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication"
- Leonardo Da Vinci

All girls love to wear pink, myself included. By matching a classic pink jumper that will never go out of fashion and can be worn again and again over the different seasons. With a hint of blush you can never go wrong.

A leather skirt creates a strong fashion statement that is a key style staple. Whether you opt for a full-length skirt, mid-length pleated or a pencil skirt a leather skirt can be worn from season to season. Any can rock a leather skirt and blow is how I rocked it.

Shot in la bella Italia.

Cobbled streets, and long walks exploring left me choosing to wear converses as opposed to mid-heel pointed boots.

Combining a jumper it highlights your was it portions when you tuck into the skirt. A jumper is ideal for the winter season and layering is a great way to keep warm. A belt is used for more waist definition which also adds a little edge.

A biker jacket is added for layering as well as style. As the night draws Rome tends to get chilly.

THAT PRINCESS FEELING.

"I think every young girl at some point in her early life wonders what it's like to be a princess. They like the idea of dressing up and the fun of it."
Julie Andrews

A summer wedding, winter wedding, a formal dinner, special events or graduation, you never want to be the person who blends into the crowd your mission is to 'wow' everyone, make those jaws drop and own it. This is a series of outfits that can be wore to any of these occasional events a decode dressing for multiple of season of occasions.

L O O K  O N E :

A simple dress can scream elegant in various ways, especially the way it fall on your body.  By adding a belt it attracts attention to the slimmest part of your body i.e. your waistline.Adding this belt congrats with the outfit and makes it a lot more interesting and appealing to the eye. A belt usually creates a flattering figure and adds an element of sophistication.

The choice of the under-top of a dress naturally speaks out lace and a nude under-top to give the illusion of skin. Typically I'd say do lighter than the colour you are wearing, white and black tend to be safe choices and can work well with the combination of your hijab.
Wearing a white lace under-top here is an aid for contrasting colours along with keeping it classic.
L O O K  T W O :

A simply elegant dress that has glamorous written all over it. The lace embellishments and the scalloped edges give a classic and girly feel that is rare. A scalloped edge makes the difference between a nice dress and a masterpiece dress.
I've paired this dress with a white jumper and a baby pink belt to nip me in at the waistline, underneath line delicate sleeves and scalloped at the wrist. The weather had been cold, so layering was a good option.
Nude heels and a white scarf add to the fairytale look, subtle, delicate and utterly girly.
